Hydrangea Blue Boogie Woogie 5 Litre: In 2015 De Jong Plant B.V. has introduced the Hydrangea Music Collection®. This new concept of rich flowering Hydrangea is available in seven different mophead varieties, all with their own colouring. At The I.P.M. in Essen the Music Collection®  won the second prize at the Show Your Colours Award. It has since picked up a long line of awards for innovation and beauty. The Blue Boogie Woogie is beautiful introduction to the range, we will of course be bringing you more varieties and sizes from the Music Collection during the spring and summer months. Other varieties will include Deep Purple Dance, Pink Pop, Soft Pink Salsa, Purple Punk, Red Reggae. All are beautiful and all flower on new wood, so new flowers every year. Blue Boogie Woogie's flowers are of the mophead variety and are a deep royal blue.

What to expect: Your purchase will arrive in a standard 5 litre nursery pot. Heights will vary and so will looks depending on the time of year purchased, the main picture is of course when the plant is in full flower if purchased out of season it will arrive with no flowers or foliage.

Planting position: Best planted in a lightly shaded warm spot, never close to a tree. Tree roots are the dominant force and will deprive your hydrangea of the nutrition it needs Suitable for container planting: Yes a great choice

Position: Full sun through to partial shade.

Soil: Happy in all soil types excluding heavy clay

Eventual Height at maturity: Approximately 80cm Flowering Period: July through to late September

Winter Hardy: Yes for the whole UK, copes well with rain, wind and moderate frost. Severe frosts will not be fatal it may damage the buds this will almost certainly result in smaller flowers, whilst this isnt relevant to plants that are going to live in the south it may be advisable to wrap in a winter fleece in the colder parts of the Uk.

Evergreen: No Deciduous

Pruning: Cut your Hydrangea back to a strong pair of buds in early spring after the frosts have cleared, can be cut earlier if you have planted in a pot and can bring it inside to escape the worse of the winter weather

Hydrangea plants do not like having dry roots. The plant needs watering regularly, both in a pot and in the soil during warm periods. You should thereby try as much as possible to keep the flowers dry. If pot planted we would recommend you stand your pot on water dish and water from the base. Do not allow to dry out.

When should I prune back my Hydrangea:

We suggest waiting until Febrary/March when the frosts have gone.    The dead flower heads will protect the plant over the winter months.    When the frosts have finished cut it back by approximately a quarter and remove any weak or frost damaged shoots to the healthy wood.
