Large Ornamental Grass Panicum Virgatum Northwind: Panicum Northwind  a deciduous, relatively quick to mature perennial grass, upto to 1.5m tall at maturity. Northwind forms an upright clump of flat, linear, blue-green leaves turning yellow and orange in autumn. Large, airy sprays of tiny pink and green flowers are produced in late summer and persist into mid-autumn.

What to expect: These plants can vary greatly depending on the time of year purchased, if purchased in summer heights are upto approximately 1.2 metres, like the pictures taken in July but please note these plants have to be cut to virtually ground level before the growing season commences so if purchased in winter or early spring you will receive what appears to a very small plant.

Panicum Northwind is a very low maintenance ornamental grass upto 1.5 metres at maturity with a spread of approximately 1 metre. Northwind is a perennial grass that will require cutting virtually back to the ground in late winter, after the worst of the weather. It can be cut as low as 10 cms or 4 inches from ground level and will still reach heights in excess of 1.2 metres plus annually.
Panicum can be annual or perennial, Northwind is a perennial, so you are not buying a plant for one season, Northwind is a deciduous grass, with flat, narrowly lanceolate leaves, with large finely branched panicles of small spikelets in late summer and into autumn.
