Bamboo Fargesia Black Dragon 5 Litre 100/125cm - Brand New Plants: Bamboo Fargesia Black Dragon a completely new plant, introduced to the UK for the Autumn 2018 planting season. Black Dragon is a real non invasive, low growing alternative to Black Bamboo Phyllostachys Nigra. Black Dragon is a brand new Bamboo Plant, it is closely related to Red Dragon and Blue Dragon it has been specifically bred to form a non invasive rootball, making it a super choice for container planting.  Culms emerge green and darken as tehy mature. Our Dragon Bamboo do not tend to do well in full sun, they are a great choice for a bright but shaded spot out of full sun. Reaching modest heights at maturity of around 3 to 3.5 metres, they make a great choice for pots, informal hedges or stand alone specimens.

What to expect: Your plant will arrive with an actual plant height of 100/125cm excluding the pot, it will look exactly like the pictures.

Dragon Bamboo have been specifically designed to be non invasive and solve the problem of Bamboo plants that will grow without planting in full sun. They will happily grow in pots and all soil types, excluding waterlogged areas. Best conditions are a relatively bright but shaded area, they will grown in acid and lime soil and require little or no maintenance. For best results we recommend adding a slow release fertiliser with a high nitrogen content to the container or planting area for this we suggest choosing Osmocote use approximately 6 grams of food per litre of pot, so for example if replanting into a 10 litre pot, 60 grams of food. And of course always make sure of a good water supply, Bamboo do not respond well to drought.
How tall will this bamboo grow? . Are they evergreen Bamboo are an evergreen, perennial and a member of the grass family. Fast growing, they take up very little lateral space and yet they can reach fabulous heights extremely quickly, making bamboo a very cost effective choice when you need screening fast! They will naturally shed some leaf during the winter months. .How much water do they need Like any other plant, bamboo needs three basic things in order to survive. Soil, sun and water. And as a gardener, one of your greatest responsibilities is to provide your bamboo with water. They are an incredibly thirsty plant and will require watering on a daily basis especially during hot periods. .Will it need a root barrier Fargesia are a non invasive clumping bamboo and will not require a root barrier. Phyllostachys, Aureosulcata and Pseudosasa are all ‘runners’ which can be either planted in a larger pot or with a root barrier in the ground. .How quickly will it grow This really is dependent on watering sunshine and care. You would hope to achieve at least another third in growth during the growing season. .How far apart should I plant them Space mature plants 1 metre apart to form a dense screen. Fast Growing varieties can be planted a little further apart if you don't mind waiting longer for them to fill in the gaps.
