Cordyline Australis CanCan 3 Litre: CanCan a relatively new award winning Cordyline cultivar, what sets this apart from other Cordyline is the amazing colour of the foliage, new foliage emerges with an attractive variegation of pink on red and ages to cream on green. Can Can makes an excellent plant as a focal point in a border or as a container plant. Best in full sun to light shade in a fertile free draining soil. It makes a great year round plant, colour is kept all winter so a great to liven up the garden during the dark winter months. It is ideal for pots and borders in all but waterlogged soils. Winter harder to approximately -6, so may need protection in colder areas of the Uk, will withstand colder climates at maturity.
Cordyline are tough relatively low maintenance plants, but lust like ourselves they appreciate a little TLC occasionally. If pot planting try using a John Innes Number 2 along with some potting grit, pot on into John Innes Number 3 as the plant matures. During severe winter weather and extreme cold spells to protect from frost and wind damage try tying the foliage up and wrapping in bubble wrap or a winter fleece do not leave it like this longer than necessary trussed up foliage can collect water and this can cause the leaves to rot, this is more untidy than life threatening. Feed monthly with a liquid fertiliser from spring through to late summer. Although Cordyline are drought tolerant when mature, they do better when at least some water is provided, especially when pot planted. Any damaged foliage can be removed as and when required.
