Phormium New Zealand Flax Rainbow Queen 15 Litre Large Plants:  A strikingly beautiful variagated Phormium Rainbow Queen has broad bronze-green leaves, red margins edged cream, the overall effect is quite exotic. Origanating from New Zealand Phormium are versatile evergreen plants that tolerate a range of conditions will cope without problem by the seaside where other plants have failed. They look at home in a variety of different planting schemes, and will even sit happily in large pots. In recent years they have become increasingly popular in the UK this is mainly due to the fact that they grow quick, are easy to maintain and there is a large choice of varieties and colours. It makes a stunning centrepiece in a container, or an architectural specimen plant in the border either surrounded by coloured gravel or soil. Rainbow Queen is a striking low maintenance multi coloured Flax. it is a beautiful colourful evergreen plant for all garden. matures plants can be expected to reach heights in excess if of 1 metre with a spread of approximately 1.5 metres.  

What to expect: Your plant will arrive planted in a large 15 litre pot, it will look just like the pictures, taken May.

Planting Position: Best planted in a sunny spot through to light shade partial shade, somewhere it can be seen and admired. Will do well in damp areas.

Soil: Will sit happily and adapt to most soil types does especially well in damp free draining damp soil heavy clay should be avoided.

Suitable for container planting: Yes a great choice for pot or ground.

Eventual height and spread: Relatively small buy Phormium standards upto 1 metre tall with a similar spread.

Growth Speed: Relatively quick in best planting conditions will reach full height in approximately 2-3 years

Growth Habit: Draping almost cascading

Flowering Period: July and August, however this does depend on summer temperatures, the warmer the climate the more probable flowering will be.

Pruning: Not really a requirement, apart from removing anu winter damaged foliage in early spring.

Foliage: Cream delight are mostly cream edged wth green.

Evergreen: Yes

Winter Hardy: Yes to approximately -10. It may be advisable if planted in a pot to protect the roots by wrapping the pot on bubble wrap during harsh winters or in the colder parts of the UK

Phormium are a tough plant that require very little maintenance apart from a tidy up after winter. Adding some well-rotted manure in early spring to the planted area will give the plants a boost after the dormant months and stimulate new growth.
