Extra Large Cryptomeria Japonica Globosa Nana Bush 35 Litre: Also known as Japanese Red Cedar. An extremely decorative variety of conifer forming a dome of bright green foliage, with new growth having a touch of yellow and turning to a shade of pale blue in winter, these plants are fully hardy for the whole of the uk including the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. They make a good alternative to the more established topiary plants. The Cryptomeria Globosa is a slow growing dwarf variety of conifer, although looking at this plant there is nothing that suggests dwarf, its a huge plant!  with a height and spread of approximately 60 to 80cm, Cryptomeria require little maintenance  apart from the usual of feeding during the growing season and ensuring it is watered, especially during the growing season.

Planting Position: Equally happy in full sun through to partial shade.

Soil: Being a variety of conifer Cryptomeria are an extremely versatile plant so, sand, clay, chalk, loam are all acceptable, for best results ensure the planted area is moist and well drained.

Suitable for container planting: Yes ideal for both ground and container, can and often is used as a more hardy alternative to more traditional topiary plants to flank doorways and entrances.

Eventual height and spread: A slow growing plant the head will grow year on year and the stem will become thicker, it will only gain 1 or 2 inches in actual height per year.

Growth Speed: Head, relatively quick. Stem, extremely slow.

Growth Habit: Bushy.

Flowering Period: Not Applicable.

Pruning: Better to be done a little and often, approximately once a month during the growing season is sufficient to maintain head shape. Simply cut new growth that is not in keeping with the shape.

Foliage: Mid to dark green leaves new growth has a slight yellow tinge, during winter the foliage has a touch of pale blue to it.

An extremely low maintenance plant that is generally pest and disease free. Ensure plants have an adequate water supply, especially during the growing season, especially when planted in a pot. For best results feed approximately every 6 weeks during the growing season. Requires no special attention during the winter months.
