Betula Jaquemontii Feathered Single Stem 200/225cm: Betula Jacquemontii, commonly known as the Himalayan birch or white-barked Himalayan birch, is a deciduous tree native to the Himalayas, specifically in the regions of India, Nepal, and Pakistan. It is widely cultivated for its striking white bark and graceful appearance.
The Himalayan birch is a medium-sized tree that can reach heights of up to 20 metres. It has a slender trunk and a pyramidal or conical crown. One of its most distinctive features is its white bark, which peels off in thin strips, revealing a smooth, creamy-white surface underneath. This white bark provides a beautiful contrast against the tree's dark green leaves, especially during the winter months when the leaves have fallen.
The leaves of the Betula Jacquemontii are alternate, ovate or triangular in shape, and finely toothed along the margins. They are typically 5-10 centimetres long and turn yellow in the autumn before they drop.
In the spring, the Himalayan birch produces small, pendulous catkins that hang from the branches. These catkins consist of clusters of tiny flowers that release pollen into the air for wind pollination. The female catkins develop into small, winged nutlets that are dispersed by the wind.
The Betula Jacquemontii is a hardy tree that prefers cool temperate climates. It thrives in moist, well-drained soils. It is commonly used as an ornamental tree in gardens and parks due to its attractive bark and elegant form.
A tree that requires virtually no maintenance, its fully hardy and being a pot grown multi stem does not even require a stake. Can be planted in all soil types, it does best in a moist well drained area in full sun through to partial shade. Remove any winter damaged branches in spring.
