Taxus and Native Hedging

Taxus and Native Hedging

As well as being functional a hedge can look stunning whatever the season,  from the impressive structure of bare twigs to lush foliage in summer and fabulous colours in autumn.

A Native hedge in particular provides cheap and easy screening.  Whether you are looking for privacy or to attract the wildlife to your garden there is an option for you.

A traditional mixed hedge is excellent for security. They've kept livestock out for centuries so they'll discourage people too. Hawthorn and blackthorn are fast-growing and make impenetrable barriers, and holly provides a spiky, evergreen option.

Hedgerows offer a lifeline for wildlife,  providing food, shelter and nesting places for birds, mammals and invertebrates. A hedge of mixed native species is especially valuable.

Trough hedging has been grown in a 1 metre long trough. The beauty of buying hedging in a trough is the plants have been trimmed regularly through the growing season, to allow a hedging unit to form. Not only do the plants knit together but so do the roots, which makes for a healthy hedge with a great success rate once planted.

Trough hedging can be planted at any time of year, although Autumn to Spring is the best time to plant.

Feed still within in the growing media will give nutrients to the plants well into the next growing season, for continued strong growth.
