Leucothoe Axillaris 'Curly Red' 2 Litre - High Quality. Also known as Dog Hobble. What makes this plant very special is its curly foliage that changes colour as the seasons progress. During Autumn the curly red eaves colour to red before turning purple.The plant is extremely hardy and retains its colour throughout the winter. In fact,the red twigs produce red and pink shoots,giving a very attractive affect. In early spring it produces small white flowers. The plant branches vigorously,which gives it a beautiful compact appearance. Leucothoe is a low maintenance plant. It tolerates sun and is resistant to disease. Ideal choice for low maintenance gardens planted in borders but will look equally as good planted in a pot on a balcony or patio.

What to expect: Your Curly Red is a highest quality plant from a very exclusive grower and will arrive with an actual plant size of 25-30cm. Planted in a large 2 litre/17cm pot.  The colour of the outer leaves may differ slightly from the picture depending on time of year purchased.

Planting Position: Partial shade through to full shade.

Soil. Very adaptable plant will tolerate a wide range of well drained soils.

Suitable for container planting. Yes ideal for both ground and container.

Eventual heigh and spread: 120-150 high x150cm wide.

Growth speed: Slow to medium, horizontal growth is quicker than vertical, making it an excellent choice for ground cover.

Growth Habit: Bushy, creeping

Flowering Period: Not really a flowering plant small inconspicuous white flowers, on new growth.

Pruning: Not necessary.

Foliage: Deep green with red tips that turn to dark burgundy during autumn and winter. Has an almost crispy feel rather than the usual foliage of other Leucohoe variaties.

Evergreen. Yes this plant is one of a limited number of garden plants that looks equally as good if not better during the winter months.

Hardiness: Fully hardy -15.

An extremely low maintinence tough plant that requires no special attention. Plant in a semi shaded spot in well drained damp soil. Prepare your hole by loosening the soil at the base of the hole to help root establishment, adding an organic compost will also help the plant get settled. Feed sparingly during the summer months to encouarge winter colour change. If planted in a pot ensure a good water supply. This plant has no special requirements during the winter months.
