Monkey Puzzle Tree Araucaria Araucana 10 Litre 50-60cm excluding pot. Araucaria are highly decorative evergreen trees from the Southern Hemisphere, with whorled branches bearing spirally arranged leaves that are needle-like, triangular or scale-like, they are extremely sharp, so take care when opening the box! Mature Monkey Puzzle trees can bear cones on upper branches.

What to Expect: These are currently our smallest Monkey Puzzle tress but still well established, planted and well branched and rooted in10 Litre pots. They stand at approximately 50-60cm tall excluding the pot. Whilst no two of these plants are identical, your purchase will look similar to the picture.

Although Monkey Puzzle Trees are not particularly fast growing once established they will take up lots of space, please keep this in mind when planting, it is best kept away from paths where people might come into contact with the spikes, most importantly when considering a planting position is to put it somewhere where it can be seen and admired.

 

Planting position: Best suited to a sunny spot but will cope well in a partially shade area

Soil: Best planted in a moist well drained area tolerant to a wide range of soil types loam,sand or chalky.

Suitable for Container planting: Will cope in a pot whilst young but will need to be ground planted eventually.

Eventual height and spread: 12 metres with an 8 metre spread, however time to maturity can be more than 50 years

Pruning: No plants should be left to themselves

Growth speed: Relatively slow.

Growth Habit: Upright bushy tree

Evergreen: Yes. Looks just as good during winter as it does in summertime
