Large Established Japanese Umbrella Pine Sciadopitys Verticallata 10 Litre 100/120cm: Sciadopitys Verticillata, commonly known as the Japanese umbrella pine, is a unique and visually striking evergreen tree that can be a remarkable addition to any landscape. This tree is native to Japan and is renowned for its distinct appearance and interesting features.

The Sciadopitys Verticillata is known for its umbrella-like shape, with its branches radiating outward horizontally from the trunk. The tree has dense, dark green foliage arranged in whorls, giving it a unique and eye-catching texture. The foliage consists of long, needle-like leaves, similar to those of a pine tree, but with a softer and more delicate appearance.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the Japanese umbrella pine is its ability to thrive in both full sun and partial shade, making it a versatile choice for various garden settings. It prefers moist, well-drained soil and can tolerate a range of soil types, including acidic and alkaline soils.

Sciadopitys Verticillata is a slow-growing tree, so a good choice for pots, overtime it can reach heights in excess of 12 metres but you would be waiting a upto 50 years!

Apart from its aesthetic appeal, the Japanese umbrella pine is also known for its excellent tolerance to heat, drought, and pollution, making it a hardy and resilient tree. It requires little to no pruning, as it naturally maintains its elegant form

 

Planting Position: For best results plant in full sun, away from exposed windy sites.

Soil: Very adaptable plant, a good choice for a wide almost all soil types, excluding heavy clay and alkaline. Best suited to a moist well drained.

Suitable for container planting: Yes ideal.

Eventual height and spread: Has been known to reach over 30ft high with a similar spread in cultivation however this is rare.

Growth speed: Very slow.

Growth habit: Upright, bushy.

Pruning: No not necessary.

Foliage: Deep green, long green narrow needles, encircling its branches, has a touch of bronze to it during winter.

Choose a location with morning sun and in the hottest parts of the country somewhere with a liitle shade from hot afternoon sun. Umbrella pines need organically rich soil that manages moisture well so before planting prepare your hole with some well-rotted manure or a thick layer of compost. Try to keep the soil relatively moist. Organic mulch will help maintain some moisture feed once or twice during the summer months. This plant has no special requirements during the winter months
