Large Climbing Ivy Plants Hedera Colchica Dentata:  Persian Ivy, Hedera Dentata Variegata is a vigorous self variegated climber, with heavily variegated heart shaped pale green leaves with a good splash of creamy white edges, these are lovely looking plants. Although classed as a self clinging variety. Dentata Variegata is a great choice and lovely looking plant for covering wall, fences, pergolas etc, like most Ivy it is best grown in full sun through to light shade, it will tolerate full shade but if possible this should be avoided.

What to expect: Your plant will arrive in a 7.5 litre pot, with a minimum plant height of 140cm

Water well until established in the planting area, although these plants are pretty much self sufficient to keep them looking lush and healthy try adding balanced fertiliser monthly during the growing season, alternatively add a slow release top dress fertiliser such as Osmocote

Does this plant need any particular type of soil for planting?

Hedera Sulphur Heart does tend to do better in Alkaline soil, but it will adapt to most types, waterlogged areas should be avoided though.

Can I plant in full shade?

It is a very adaptable plant and will grow albeit slowly, but complete full shade is far from an ideal situation.

How large will it grow?

Its not an exact science as these plants will just grow and grow, but realistically they will get to 5 metres and beyond if left untrimmed

When can I prune it?

Climbing Ivy can be pruned whenever required.

Planting climbers Having suitable support for your climber is essential. Do not plant too close to a retaining wall or fence as this will cause the plant to dry out. To prevent this, plant at least a foot away and at roughly a 45-degree angle leaning back towards the support structure. Once planted, compact soil mixture around the base for extra support and water well.
