1/2 Standard Portuguese Laurel Prunus Lusitanica 40/50 or 50/60cm Head : Beautiful Large Head, chunky stemmed Standard Portuguese Laurel. Prunus Lusitanica is a smaller leaved variety of Laurel, they make a super alternative to the more traditional topiary standards such as Bay Trees and Buxus and Ilex, leaves are a glossy dark green and keep colour throughout even the harshest winters. During the earlier summer months, May to July, depending on climate, fragrant white flowers appear, these are followed by red fruits which ripen to black. These are relatively quick growing trees, the standard stem will not grow taller but will get thicker, heads are currently around 50cm in diameter and should be trimmed a couple of times a year to keep it nice and compact. Laurel even is standard form is extremely hardy it does best planted in full sun, and requires no winter protection, they will happily sit in pots or the ground all winter.
Prunus Lusitanica requires very little maintenance it will grow in all soil types and is tolerant of drought, if you forget to give potted plants a water, it shouldn't be a cause for concern, they will soon bounce back.
