Leucothoe Zeblid Scarletta: Leucothoe Zeblid is an evergreen shrub, that gives great autumn colour. Due to the relatively low growth habit, upto around 1 metre it makes a great choice for ground cover in borders,  but also an option for evergreen plants in pots. Zeblid has long slim glossy leaves emerging dark red/maroon changing green as they mature autumn colour is bronze. For best results grow in acid soil or if pot planted ericaceous compost.

Growth speed: Slow to medium, horizontal growth is quicker than vertical, making it an excellent choice for ground cover.

Growth Habit: Bushy, creeping

Flowering Period: Better known for Autumn colour rather than flowers however small inconspicuous white flowers are produced on new growth in spring.

Pruning: Not necessary.

Foliage: New growth is green with red tips, dark burgundy during autumn and winter, gives good winter colour when most of the garden is looking pretty bare. 

Evergreen? Yes this plant is one of a limited number of garden plants that looks equally as good if not better during the winter months.

Hardiness: Fully hardy -15

An extremely low maintenance tough plant that requires no special attention. Plant in a sunny or semi shaded spot in well drained damp soil. Prepare your hole by loosening the soil at the base of the hole to help root establishment, adding an organic compost will also help the plant get settled. Feed sparingly during the summer months to encourage winter colour change. If planted in a pot ensure a good water supply. This plant has no special requirements during the winter months.
