Variegated Phormium Plants New Zealand Flax 'Pink Stripe 7.5 Litre Pot:  Pink Stripe has broad, arching, dark green and deep pink variegatd foliage and spikes of tubular, red summer flowers, these are more dramatic in warmer areas of the uk. It is one of the smaller growing varietis reaching heights of around 1 metres with a spread of 75cm. This vibrant coloured evergreen plant is an excellent choice for brightening a lightly shaded spot sunny patio or courtyard garden. It looks especially effective in rock gardens or pot planted. 

Phormium make a dramatic statement in the garden, the effect of these plants will give is immediate. They are versatile evergreen plants that tolerate a range of conditions and look at home in a variety of different planting schemes. Phormium or New Zealand Flax, has two characteristics which are sought-after by gardeners looking to add a bit of drama to their borders. It offers bold, architectural lines with its erect, sword-shaped leaves and rich evergreen foliage colour.. It is especially suitable to container growing and is often used as a central feature to give height. As an evergreen it will add valuable winter interest to your garden where it will provide structure and act as a foil for flowering plants. In hot summers, towering spikes of tubular, red flowers emerge from the centre, followed by sturdy seed-heads. It gives a lush almost tropical feel to gardens. Phormium is a robust species that is easy to grow and requires very little maintenance. Phormium are extremely tolerant of a variety of harsh conditions, it copes particularly well with industrial pollution, wind and coastal sites. Interestingly, while Phormiums love a moist, well drained, fertile soil and they can succeed in both sandy and clay soils and also can be very drought-resistant.

Soil: Will sit happily and adapt to most soil types does especially well in damp free draining damp soil,  heavy clay should be avoided.

Suitable for container planting: Yes a great choice for pot or ground, if pot planted ensure a good water supply. 

Winter Hardy: Yes, but may need some protection in colder areas, below -10

Eventual height and spread:  A relatively small varirety of Phormium upto 1 metres tall with a 1 metre spread, making an ideal choice for pots.

Growth Speed: Relatively quick.

Growth Habit: Slight cascading habit but more upright than many other phormium varieties 

Flowering Period: July and August, however this does depend on summer temperatures, the warmer the climate the more probable flowering will be.

Pruning: Not really a requirement a low maintenance plant. apart from removing any winter damaged foliage in early spring.
