Phormium Tenax New Zealand Flax Plant  'Bronze Baby' 7.5 Litre Pot.  Phormium are colourful stylish garden plant that require very little maintenance, a little help in severe winters, and a tidy up in spring. If you want to be especially pro active a general liquid fertiliser in spring and once again in summer, if pot planted a slow realease food mixed in the compost is ideal. They can look good all year round, their leathery, arching, sword-shaped leaves will create a dramatic focal point in any sheltered border or container during hot summers the plants will produce tall spikes of tubular flowers similar to an outdoor yucca but more arching and much bigger! Bronze Baby is a compact phormium with deep purple-bronze leaves.

What to expect: Your plant will arrive planted in a 7.5litre pot, it will have an actual height of 60-70cm excluding the pot, height inclusive is 80-90cm, these plants are evergreen or ever bronze that look equally as good during the winter months.

Eventual height approximately 1 metre with a similar spread

Phormiums are not tender plants that only grow in very mild southern areas they can grow pretty much anywhere in the UK and make especially good plants for coastal and windswept areas . They can  tolerate minus 5°C without issue which during most winters especially in milder areas is just about as bad as it gets. They can cope with -10°C  if basic  measures are taken. All that is necessary is a deep and dry mulch of peat, leaf mould, leaves or bark right around the base of the plant and between individual shoots if you have a large clump with many side shoots. The leaves of larger clumps can offer protection to a lesser degree, even if they are split and scarred by the wind, any damaged leaves can be easily removed once the worst of the weather has passed.
