The pictures were taken in summer so if purchased out of season the growth will appear somewhat stunted or look a little untidy its nothing to be concerned with and can be removed in spring after the worst of the weather has passed, in our opinion they are best left in situ as the old fronds protect from frost. New fronds will appear and start to unfurl pretty much as soon as the temperatures start to rise.
