Gardening not only benefits our gardens, it benefits our mental and physical health.

Throughout covid stricken times, we really had limited choice on what to do with our time.

Many people took this as an opportunity to spend time in their gardens.

So many articles have been written based on the transformation of gardening due to covid.

Benefits of Gardening

British physician Sir Muir Gray famously said that everyone needs a ‘Natural Health Service’ as well as a National Health Service.

Exercise is good for you, its a fact.

The NHS considers it essential to living a healthy and fulfilling life.  So much so the NHS has included Social Prescribing in its long term plant.

As, for example, it is medically proven that people who do regular physical activity have up to a 35% lower risk of coronary heart disease and stroke.

Just think 30 minutes of gardening is comparable to playing badminton, volleyball or practising yoga!

It has really come to light that gardening has many beneficial impacts on our physical and mental health.

  • brain health all improved
  • Risk of a number of health problems is reduced.

Mental:

  • stress relief
  • self esteem improved.
  • Overall improvement in mental health
