TREES FOR PRIVACY

Trees for Privacy

Privacy can make a big difference to how you enjoy your garden.

Using trees for privacy

Trees for privacy can enhance the look of your outdoor space as well as providing a screen.

It is important to think about the trees eventual shape and growth rate as they can provide an excellent screen.

Here are a few examples of trees that will provide a tall screen:

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus Gunni also known as the cider gum tree.

Originating from Tasmania, Gunni is now a popular choice for a quick growing winter hardy (to minus 15) evergreen tree here in the UK.

Eucalyptus Gunni is best grown in full sun, preferably in acid or neutral soil.

Gunni can grow to a large columnar tree reaching heights in excess of 12 metres with a spread of 5 metres plus.

Foliage is scented and a bright silvery grey with age the bark which is a creamy brown can peel, this is of course perfectly normal and adds to the overall effect.

Leylandii.

The bushy appearance of Leylandii makes it perfect for creating a focal point in borders, driveways, and gardens.

You can also plant it with other Leylandii hedging to create privacy and shelter from the wind.

The Leylandii we sell at Charella are of the highest quality and will thrive throughout every season.

Pyrus Calleryana Chanticleer

A tall conical tree, Pyrus Chanticeer or Ornamental Pear Tree, foliage is dark glossy green and it creates masses of white flowers in Aril and May.

Chanticleer is rightly regarded as one of the best ornamental pear trees for autumn colour which is dark red.

Fully hardy for all Uk areas for best results plant in full sun in moist well drained compost.

Common Problems associated with trees

As with all plants and trees in the UK there are various pests and diseases that can affect them.

If you do have concerns, please feel free to contact us or here is a link to the RHS guidance page.

The main concern regarding the planting of trees is whether permission from the local council is needed or whether the roots will damage the property.

The RHS have an excellent guidance page with some general information which covers all aspects of concern.
