Bamboo Fargesia Robusta Formidable 50/60cm: Originating from the province of Sichuan in China. Robusta Formidable grows in dense, loose clumps, the culms bending gracefully under the weight of the foliage. After the initial period of establishment, generally the first year, it can grow rapidly at the rate of about one metre per year reaching an average height of around 4m. In optimum growing conditions it can reach heights in excess of 5m forming large clumps of 2 or even 3m wide. The relatively thin culms (0.3 to 1.5 cm) are green when young, punctuated by the sheathing base of the white leaves. As they age, the culms turn red. The narrow, elongated leaves are up to 20cm long and are a medium green.

Very accommodating with regard to the soil but preferring rich, neutral, well drained but will adapt to many conditions, heavy clay and waterlogged ground should be avoided. This variety loves sun and but will also grow happily in bright partially shaded areas. Hardy down to -15°C, and resistant to the wind, it is an easy plant to establish in the garden. Also tolerant of drought for short periods, however as with all Bamboo this is not somethong we recommend especially during the 1st year when the roots are becoming established.
