How far apart do I need to plant?

This is the most popular of our frequently asked questions.

As a recommended supplier with the RHS the general planting rule advised by them is to plant Bamboo 90 to 100cm apart.

Hedging can be planted 2 to 3 plants per metre dependant on size.

Our Frequently asked questions

I have a really large bamboo but would like, if possible, to split it into smaller plants. Is this possible?

This is one of our frequently asked questions in relation to Bamboo.
This is of course possible Bamboo are one of the easiest plants for this type of thing.
Best time to do this is either in Autumn when the growing season ends and before the winter begins or in early spring when the frosts have cleared.
It may sound harsh but it really is not to difficult. Simply split the roots with an axe, very sharp knife or a saw.
Re-plant in a smaller pot in a multi purpose compost and try to keep the plants clear of frost whilst becoming established. Hope this helps.

I am looking to buy bamboo for screening, which is best?

It is always best to contact the Nursery at the time of purchase so we can talk you through the best options.

Whether this be the tallest, bushiest or which are best suited to the area you propose to screen.

Our Frequently asked questions

I am looking to buy some bay trees, If I buy two will they match?

We source all our Laurus from one small family grower in Belgium which ensures all Bay Trees have similar foliage.
When picking your pair we will make sure they are the best possible match.
Whilst we can not promise the plants will be an exact match we always endeavour to send out the best match possible.

Our frequently asked questions

When should I deadhead my Hydrangea?

Hydrangea buds form in late summer and the spent flowers form an important protective layer for them, so they should not be removed until after the last frosts.
February time is when we look to prune our stock.
When you do prune, cut back to the first pair of healthy buds.
Any old, crossing or dead wood should be cut right back to the base of the shrub.
Gardeners World have an excellent article on the pruning of Hydrangea

Our frequently asked questions

When should I prune my Photinia?

Photinias require minimal pruning, but will benefit from the occasional trim in spring or summer to promote dense growth and maintain a good overall shape.
Vigorous species can be pruned more regularly to keep them within bounds. Avoid trimming after mid-August, as regrowth would be vulnerable to autumn frosts.

Are you able to deliver overseas?

As Plant Passport Holders we are able to import live plants, however we are not able to deliver overseas.

Why do you work with APHA and who are they?

We work very closesly with the Animal and Plant Health Agency.

APHA is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, otherwise known as DEFRA.

The responsibility and The Benefits of The Animal and Plant Health Agency in the Horticultural world is to safeguard plant health for the benefit of the people, the environment and the economy.

As Plant Passport holders we ensure that our plants are traced throughout the supply chain and declare compliance with plant health requirements such as freedom from pests which is essential for maintaining biosecurity.

In order to be authorised to issue plant passports, APHA interview the person responsible at the Nursery, Audit our records annually, inspect host plants when they arrive with us and periodically sample them to make sure they are free from pests or diseases.
Authorisation is reviewed annually to make sure we are competent and able to trade plants free of regulated organisms.

I am a little concerned about buying plants online. How do you get them to me?
